It all began years ago with the León family, who owned a café in the city of Caraz. It was there that Lali and Doris León gained experience and discovered their passion for cooking.
El Tarwi was born from a shared idea between the two sisters and Lali’s daughter, Rocío Orihuela — to bring a little piece of Caraz to the heart of Lima, a place where people could enjoy traditional dishes and, through their flavors, be transported to their beloved and cherished hometown.
And so, in September 2002, they opened their first location in Santa Catalina, La Victoria. Thanks to the warm reception they received, they opened their second location in Jesús María in September 2007.
Our menu features the most traditional dishes from Ancash cuisine: cured ham, tamales, humitas, chocho or tarwi ceviche, chicken llunca soup, and much more. Its signature dish is fried guinea pig with spicy potatoes — a dish highly sought after by loyal diners and tourists alike, considered a meal that changed the course of history.
The menu also includes classic Peruvian creole dishes and a selection of traditional desserts from Ancash, delighting all who visit.
